End of Season Competitions (
3/4 minute read)
Not long until the “official” end of the season so it’s time to look towards our end-of-season contests and awards and all that jazz.
Last season we held an U10/12 4v4 contest as well as an U14 3v3 competition. In both cases we handed out the end of season awards to the groups at the same time…it wasn’t the best idea as it kind of muted the end of season AGM/Awards and Quiz day the following week 🤦😅.
So, this season, because we’d really like a full house again at the AGM/Awards Day, we’ll do it a little differently…
We are still having all the contests but we’ll stick purely to the sports and we’re expanding the 3v3s to let the U16s have a competition. We will also be hosting our second, annual, “House Rules” exhibition between the Men and U18s.
Contests:
U10/12 4v4.Date:
Monday 26th May at Windmill (replaces U12 session)
Up to 8 teams (JrNBA kit and team names provided).
Format likely to be 2 groups of 4. 5/6 minute games. Group winners playing a final.
U16 3v3.Date:
Tuesday 27th May at Windmill (replaces U16 session)
Up to 8 teams (JrNBA kit and team names provided).
Format likely 2 groups of 4. 6/7 minute games. Group winners will play a
final match on Tuesday 3rd June at half time during the “House Rules" exhibition match (see below).
Unfortunately, for both contests at Windmill, we will be unable to provide refreshments etc due to school policy.
U14 3v3.Date:
Monday 2nd June at St Andrews HS (replaces U14 session).
Up to 8 teams (JrNBA kit and team names provided).
Format likely 2 groups of 4. 6/7 minute games. Group winners will play a
final match on Tuesday 3rd June at half time during the “House Rules" exhibition match (see below).
Hopefully, refreshments (tea/coffee/juice) will be available.
Men/U18 “House Rules” ExhibitionDate:
Tuesday 3rd June at St Andrews HS (replaces Mens session).
The “House Rules” exhibition will feature alternative and special rules to make a more fun and entertaining event.
This event will have a little bit of fundraising involved (more information on that at the bottom of this article).
There should also be free tea/coffee/juice with a small area to buy sweets/similar if interested.
We will look to start the game by 7pm and have an extended half time break where we can host the U14 and U16 3v3 finals before finishing up the second half of the “House Rules” game and then tallying up the top scorer, finishing off with a spectator chosen game MVP…
so stick around.
The close of the evening will mark the “official” end of the competitive season for most squads, albeit U14s and U12s still have a couple of WPT tourneys at The Crags.
All results (and some photos) from the 4 competitions will go on the clubs competition website:
https://fsffs3v3.leaguerepublic.com/index.html. We’ll be recording all the action too so, hopefully, Malc will be able to pull some clips in time for the AGM/Awards day.
AGM/Awards Day + Quiz.Date:
Saturday 14th June at STYX, Kirkcaldy
Kick off about 1400 hours with a short AGM report by Ross then into the quiz.
Last years “Big Fat Quiz of the Year” format is ditched in favour of a more traditional Pub Quiz with 4/5 categories and some end of category bonus rounds. The bonus rounds will look for engagement from you all but don’t feel pressured to if you’d rather not.
No entry fee but there will still be a cash prize for the winner – £40 and £10 for the runner up. Tie breakers will be used in event of tied scores. Teams will be limited to 5 members (some exceptions).
We will do the usual fundraising elements with the pick a winner cards and a raffle/tombola too, so bring whatever you can to raffle off.
Then, as every year, we will dish out some awards for all the age groups, starting with the U10s. As per the last 3 years, there will be some video clips of the season gone too. Hopefully Malc doesn’t go mad scrubbing through the countless hours of footage we’ve recorded this season!
The last official training session, for this season, will be with the U18s on June 19th and then the club will go on Summer break, with a view to return to normal sessions for everyone on August 18th (Men and U18s will likely start earlier with Pre-Season training).
Don’t fret though, as Coach Gav will be planning and arranging a Summer camp for some point during the Summer holidays.
=====
House Rules Info:
Up to 18! players a-side, 4 referees (each referee will be able to play at least 2 quarters for either Mens or U18s team).
Referees are allowed to score for double points!
New Rules put into play every 5 minutes (and for a maximum of 5 minutes each), picked by members of the crowd. Rules will be explained over the microphone to all.
Each team gets a few in game cards to play to help or hinder.
There will be an MVP award on the night – to be selected by applause by the watching crowd, so the more the merrier.
“Fundraising”. Keeping it light and on theme with the event:
Pick the top scorer –
£2. All names go in a hat, £2 gets one pick for a maximum total of 36 picks. Scores tallied at end of the game and winner will get half of the prize pot (if more than 1 winner, 2/3rds of prize pot will be divided between the winners).
Take a Free Throw –
£2. Names of everyone wanting to try this will go into a hat to be plucked out whenever there is a Free Throw during the normal game time. 2 shots. No rebounding by the teams and we’ll all be encouraging the players to ‘assist’ where a little help might be needed. Where we don’t manage to get everyone we’ll just refund the ticket cost.
Steal a Score –
£2. Limited to 5 people. Whistles will be given out to those popping £2 in. One time, during the game and after any basket, your whistle can be blown to stop the game and “Steal the Score” to award it to the other team.
Should hopefully be a fun time.
